Egypt, Russia Discuss NPP Construction, Suez Industrial Zone

Egypt's President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi met with high-ranking Russian officials to discuss joint projects in the North African country and food supplies, according to Cairo.

The gathering was devoted to bilateral economic ties and was held within the general framework of the strategic partnership between Russia and Egypt, which provides various mechanisms for cooperation, including the joint Egyptian-Russian committee for trade, economic, scientific, and technical cooperation, which is currently holding its 14th session in Cairo.

The Egyptian-Russian joint ventures discussed during the talks included the first nuclear plant in North Africa, Dabaa, which is being built by the Russian energy company Rosatom and is expected to be operational by 2028-2029. , as well as a special zone in East Port Said, Egypt, which will offer a simplified tax rate for companies residing in Russia.

As indicated by the official spokesperson for the Egyptian presidency, Counselor Ahmed Fahmy, the two parties affirmed their commitment to continue strengthening bilateral relations in various fields.

From the Russian side, the Moscow delegation was headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov, joined by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov, and Ambassador of the Russian Federation in Cairo, Georgy Borisenko, among others.

During the talks, Manturov said he hoped Egypt and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) would soon sign the long-discussed free trade area (FTA) agreement.
