ALEJANDRO Melchor III, the head of Philippine operations of Ultra Safe Nuclear Corp. (USNC), wrote a letter to the editor responding to my column of March 29 on the "Right Marcos legacy in power." It was published on April 14. First, let me thank him for writing a reasoned, serious and, most important, respectful letter to the editor; and second, for his kind words on me, even while he disagrees with my column's points, which he deals with in detail. I wish all disagreements could be like this, disagreeing about being disagreeable.

Out of respect for the author, who I have not met but would be happy to, the company he works for is a respected one, and to quote from its website overview section, "The Micro Modular Reactor (MMR) Energy System is a 4th generation nuclear energy system that delivers safe, clean and cost-effective electricity to users anywhere. MMR is being licensed in Canada and the USA, and is the first 'fission battery' in commercialization. An order book has been established for first users. Demonstration units are scheduled for first nuclear power in 2026."
