The US and Saudi Arabia are putting the final touches on a landmark deal that sources say will be presented to Binyamin Netanyahu within weeks.

They will give the Israeli prime minister a choice: his legacy can be marred by the war in Gaza or burnished with a historic treaty.

Those familiar with the agreement say the US will offer Saudi Arabia a defence pact and assistance in building a civil nuclear plant, as well as co-operation in developing artificial intelligence. In return, Saudi Arabia will finally follow its neighbours who signed treaties to establish diplomatic relations with Israel in 2020.
