Kendrick Lamar's Diss Track Targeting Drake is Taking Over the Sports World

The music world has been captivated by the ongoing public feud between rappers Kendrick Lamar and Drake. Initially, Drake began by dissing Kendrick in a track called "First Person Shooter" off Drake's album, For All the Dogs, which was released in Oct. 2023.

Kendrick fired back on a song called "Like That," which is off the We Don't Trust You album by Metro Boomin. The track was released in March 2024, and featured verses from Kendrick, Future, and Metro Boomin.

The feud began to boil up even more in the last few weeks, as Drake released "Push Ups," which once again called out Kendrick and a host of other hip-hop artists. The track was released three weeks ago, leading to a quick response from Kendrick.

Kendrick answered with "Euphoria," which was released on May 1. The track immediately went viral, and he followed that up quickly with "6:16 in LA" on May 4. Drake would answer with "Family Matters" on May 4 at night. Kendrick then immediately responded with "Meet the Grahams" seemingly minutes later.

Kendrick's most recent diss track titled "Not Like Us" was released on May 5, followed by Drake's most recent one titled "The Heart Part 6" on May 6. The feud was met with tons of praise and criticism, with almost everyone picking sides. However, it appears Kendrick's final diss track has taken the sports world by storm, as plenty of teams and players (and even television stations) have been using the song.

Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Gavin Lux has recently made "Not Like Us" his walk-up song, which was showcased on the Dodgers Nation X page.

The "Not Like Us" track was also used during a transition phase on TNT in the NBA playoffs.

While professional sports were capitalizing on the hit track, the college level has also gotten in on using the feud in creative ways.

The USC Trojans Football team initially showcased a video of practice that used the "Not Like Us" song to basically indicate that no team can match their level. The song was used to provide hype for the team's social media, but it was then used by the Trojans' cross-town rivals.

The UCLA Bruins Football team decided not only to use the song as well, but they are leaning into the "beef" nature of the tracks by showing imagery of the Rose Bowl Stadium, including multiple tackles that Bruins have made on the Trojans, and scores of when they beat their rivals.

This could lead to an all-out social media feud between the Bruins and Trojans, but one thing is for sure — Kendrick's "Not Like Us" is here to stay.

In terms of deciding a "winner" for the public beef, it appears Kendrick could be considered the victor based on his song infiltrating the sports world. In terms of sheer numbers, "Not Like Us" is also leading the way with numbers.

Based on traffic from YouTube, "Not Like Us" leads the way among the diss tracks with 26 million views, while Drake's highest is "Family Matters" which has 18 million views.

"Not Like Us" might be used far more in the coming months, and it has already been used by the NBA, MLB, and NCAA, specifically the Los Angeles teams.

Kendrick is famously from Compton, California, while Drake is from Toronto, Canada.
