Nebraska DOT releases February 2025 traffic fatalities

LINCOLN, Neb. (WOWT) - The Nebraska Department of Transportation has released the latest report of traffic fatalities in the state.

On Wednesday, the Nebraska DOT reported that there were 17 traffic deaths in the month of February, bringing the 2025 total up to 33.

The 33 fatalities occurred across 32 separate crashes, according to NDOT. Of the 17 occupants who died on the roadways in February, NDOT says only three were confirmed to have been wearing a seatbelt.

Three of the fatalities were pedestrians, the report states. Seven of the 17 deaths were on highways, and eight were on “local roads.”

NDOT said 12 of the 17 fatalities were in rural or small-town locations. Two of the fatalities were reported on an interstate.

Last year, the total number of traffic deaths for was up significantly. The number is up slightly from February 2024, where there were 14 fatalities reported.
