Bridges in New York, New Jersey Need Vulnerability Study

syndication-stockton-record-18

(New York, NY) — It’s been nearly a year since Baltimore’s Key Bridge collapse. The NTSB says there are thirteen bridges in the area that need vulnerability assessments to see how they’d respond to a vessel strike.

The NTSB named 68 bridges throughout the country in need of the study. They say the bridges listed aren’t necessarily in imminent risk of collapse, but that the agencies managing those bridges simply don’t know what the risk would be if they were struck by a ship.

Some of the local bridges listed include the Brooklyn, Manhattan, Williamsburg, and Verrazano bridges. In New Jersey, the Outerbridge Crossing and Newark Bay bridge are among those listed. The New York DOT says it is reviewing the NTSB’s request.
