CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WHSV) - West Virginia State Police is launching its Violent Crime Task Force, or VCTF, with the mission to “investigate, arrest, and prosecute offenders in violent crimes and other cold cases throughout the State of West Virginia,” according to a WVSP release.

The VCTF will include law enforcement officers from West Virginia State Police, the Monongalia County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office and the FBI. This task force will also work with other law enforcement agencies at the local, state and federal levels, as well as the WVSP Forensic Laboratory, Sexual Assault Kit Initiative (SAKI) Coordinators, SAKI Investigators and the West Virginia Intelligence Exchange.

“The VCTF acknowledges the necessity for violent crimes and cold case investigations to be completed statewide and the sheer number of investigations that are unsolved around the state,” the WVSP release said.

The VCTF’s primary focus will be violent crime and cold case investigations, and WVSP is responsible for the group’s general direction, according to the release.
