April 3 is Cape Lookout Stewardship Day near Oceanside, an opportunity to give back and preserve Oregon’s coastal beauty. Each year, WEBS teams up with Cape Lookout State Park to host this event, inviting volunteers to care for natural spaces and restore vibrant coastal landscapes. Over the years, efforts to remove invasive ivy and plant native species have significantly improved the park's ecosystem.

This year, the work continues with ivy removal and native plant care, along with an exciting new project - a pollinator garden in the day-use area. On April 3rd, participants can join WEBS volunteers and park staff to help prepare the garden bed and contribute to this initiative.

According to Marina Dreeben, WEBS Stewardship Coordinator, events like this not only allow participants to give back but also provide a chance to connect with the community, enjoy a day outdoors, and learn about the challenges and triumphs of preserving Cape Lookout State Park. She adds that more Stewardship Days are planned for this spring.

Participants are encouraged to bring a water bottle, snacks, long pants, sturdy boots, rain gear, and layers to stay warm and comfortable. Work gloves, hand pruners, shovels, and trowels are also useful, though tools will be provided by WEBS.

This event is open to all skill levels, and families are welcome to join.
