LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — U.S. Representative Steven Horsford honored the American Red Cross of Southern Nevada with a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition during a blood drive on Saturday.
The event took place at the Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church.
This recognition, part of Red Cross Month celebrations, underscores the partnership between Nevadans and the Red Cross, highlighting their shared commitment to community resilience and emergency preparedness.
Rep. Horsford, representing Nevada’s Fourth Congressional District, expressed his gratitude for the Red Cross volunteers and blood donors who play a crucial role in saving lives.
Rachel Flanigan, Executive Director of the American Red Cross Southern Nevada Chapter, said, "When disasters strike, our volunteers respond, providing critical support to families and neighbors when it’s needed most." She emphasized the increasing importance of local heroes as home fires and disasters become more frequent.
The call for blood donations is particularly urgent this year. Severe winter storms across the U.S. have led to the cancellation of over 1,000 blood drives, resulting in more than 30,000 uncollected blood donations.
Rep. Horsford and the Red Cross are urging Nevadans to donate blood to help address the challenges facing the nation’s blood supply.
Donors can schedule appointments through the Red Cross Blood Donor App, visit redcrossblood.org, or call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).
