WESTON, W.Va. — A prompt response by law enforcement resulted in the arrest of a suspect linked to a stolen vehicle reported early Friday morning in Weston.

At approximately 5:54 a.m. on Friday, the Weston Police Department received a report of a vehicle theft from 1298 North River Avenue. The Chief of Police initiated an investigation, reviewing surveillance footage from the area. The footage confirmed the vehicle had been stolen around 4:24 a.m., providing authorities with a description of the suspect.

Suspect Located and Arrested

Later in the day, law enforcement was alerted to a vehicle matching the stolen car’s description in the Jane Lew area. Acting on this information, the West Virginia State Police located Jeremy A. McCartney in possession of the stolen vehicle. McCartney was taken into custody without incident.

Multi-Agency Cooperation

The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office assisted both the Weston Police Department and the West Virginia State Police, highlighting the collaborative efforts of multiple agencies.

Charges and Legal Proceedings

McCartney has been charged with grand larceny and is currently detained at Central Regional Jail, awaiting further legal proceedings. He remains presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
