Formula 1 legend Lewis Hamilton made a profit when flipping a New York penthouse he had purchased just four years prior for $50 million. The ex-Mercedes driver, who is currently racing for Ferrari, clinched his first world title at the tender age of 23 in a McLaren car nearly two decades ago and has been hooked ever since.
After joining the Silver Arrows, he added six more titles to his name, which came with a substantial financial boost. In 2017, Hamilton splashed out nearly $44M on the aforementioned penthouse. Fast forward a few years, and the apartment, complete with a plunge pool, was back on the market.
The British driver's home was reportedly sold for $49.5M, potentially netting him a profit of around $6M. This is quite a feat for Hamilton, who reportedly earns a $85M salary from his on-track exploits with the Scuderia.
Hamilton's sprawling 8,900-square-foot triplex featured five bedrooms and six bathrooms. A 3,400-square-foot private outdoor space was one of its standout features, reports the Mirror.
Inside, a private internal elevator, personal library, and chef's kitchen were among the highlights. The identity of the buyer, who won the listing that initially opened at a price of $57M in February 2019 – two years before the sale was finalized – was not disclosed.
Broker Nick Gavin represented Hamilton and his property, which, according to the New York Post, he never resided in, and came with two coveted parking spaces.
Hamilton has an impressive collection of homes that go way beyond just one luxurious penthouse. In the same year he put his Tribeca property up for sale, the 40-year-old splurged on a lavish Vestry Street penthouse boasting Hudson River views, snagging it for a cool $40M.
His real estate trove spans his British roots to the glitz of Monaco, the serenity of Switzerland, and the charm of Italy. Rumor has it that during and post the F1 frenzy, Hamilton sometimes dwells $15M mansion nestled in Monaco's Fontvieille area.
Adding to his grandeur, the Ferrari star holds the keys to a stately Kensington residence in London, once the domain of Burberry's own Christopher Bailey, with its worth pegged at $23.5M.

Hamilton's enviable property collection further includes a picturesque Lake Geneva sanctuary, a swanky Milanese apartment, and a ranch in Colorado.
It is in the Centennial State where Hamilton admitted he often likes to hunker down during the winter, though he confesses pinpointing where 'home' truly is can be elusive.
"I've never really been home [before]," Hamilton said. "In my winter, I go to the mountains [in Colorado], which I really see as my main home, because it's a house and it's full of love and memories from people, the family that come every winter.
"Where I live in Monaco, it's been somewhere I go back to, and I'd call home, but it lacks those memories. I'd be there for short periods of time. So it's not been the easiest."
