OU baseball takes two of three games from Mississippi State in SEC home series win

NORMAN — Oklahoma baseball defeated Mississippi State 7-3 Sunday afternoon in Game 3 of a three-game home series, recording its first SEC home series win.

The Sooners are now 20-3 and 4-2 in SEC play. OU defeated the Bulldogs 13-11 in Game 2 Saturday and fell to MSU 2-1 in Game 1 on Friday.

OU right-handed starting pitcher Malachi Witherspoon allowed one earned run on seven hits while striking out five Bulldog batters. Right-handed reliever Jason Bodin (2-0) notched the win, striking out one in one inning.

Junior designated hitter/catcher Easton Carmichael led the way offensively for the Sooners, finishing 2 for 4 at the plate with 2 RBIs. South Mountain Community College transfer Sam Christiansen added a home run in the fifth inning.

After taking a 2-0 lead in the first two innings, Mississippi State responded with three runs in the third. OU used a three-run sixth inning to regain the lead, which it never squandered.

Senior right-hander Dylan Crooks closed the game for the Sooners with two strikeouts in 1 â…” innings. He also slapped down a sacrifice bunt in the eighth, scoring Kyle Branch for the final run of the game.

Next, OU travels to face Oral Roberts at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Tulsa on ESPN+.
