LAMAR COUNTY, Miss. (WDAM) - Law enforcement agencies are sounding the alarms after a fatal motorcycle crash in Lamar County on Saturday.

Lamar County Sheriff Danny Rigel reported a car pulled out in front of a motorcyclist on U.S. Highway 98 in the Bellevue community.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol is the lead agency on the case.

“Always look twice because nobody wants to deal with making a careless decision behind the wheel, such as pulling out, running to the grocery store to get some milk, and you take somebody’s life by accident,” said MHP Troop J Public Affairs Officer Taylor Shows. “Nobody wants to live with that.”

He added that this crash reminds drivers that as temperatures rise, so will the number of bikes on the road.

“We’re going to see more motorcyclists on the road, and probably bicyclists, bicycling across county roads and traveling over major highways,” Shows said, “It may be redundant, and people may get tired of hearing it, but we’re still seeing wrecks, and we’re still losing lives. It’s unnecessary out here on the highways. So, somebody is not getting the message. We’re going to keep putting it out because our goal here is to keep fatalities free.”

As always, MHP asks motorists to wear seatbelts, put their phones away when driving and look twice for bikers this season.
