MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) -After donating to the Center for Pregnancy Choices of Meridian on Sunday, Leadership Lauderdale made its way to the United Way of East Mississippi to hand off their donation Monday afternoon.

This group of young students raised $560 through various fundraisers and raffle ticket sales to donate to the United Way of East Mississippi.

They were able to handpick their local non-profit and get to work planning and creating many different ideas for raising money.

Maddie Garrett says that Leadership Lauderdale brings you out of your comfort zone.

“They definitely really prioritize getting you ready for your future, whether that’s going out into your community and getting out of your comfort zone. I mean, it’s a little scary going to people’s doors and definitely out of my comfort zone, but it really taught me a good lesson just to not be scared and that it’s always good to just try and support your community in whatever way possible.”

She also talks about the importance of giving back to local nonprofits and how Leadership Lauderdale sheds light on all of them.

“I think it’s really important to really give back to the small ones, especially just because. I didn’t even know this nonprofit existed until Leadership Lauderdale, and I think it’s really important to show that they’re there and to support them in any way possible, whether through fundraisers, social media, or anything like that. I think it’s really important to support and show your support,” Maddie Garrett says.

Their next donation stop will be at Hope Village on Friday, March 28th.
