Who Is Alina Habba, Trump Loyalist Tapped To Become Interim Attorney Of New Jersey

US President Donald Trump appointed his longtime attorney, Alina Habba, as interim Attorney for the District of New Jersey. Habba has represented Trump in several legal battles.

US President Donald Trump has appointed another loyalist, his longtime attorney, Alina Habba, as the interim Attorney for the District of New Jersey, effective immediately.

Habba, an American citizen of Iraqi descent, is a New Jersey resident and was born there. A graduate of the Kent Place School and Lehigh alumni, Habba earned a bachelor’s degree in political science in 2005.

    She worked in the fashion industry as well and was at Marc Jacobs, one of America’s top brands. Habba returned to college after her stint there and earned her law degree from Widener University in Pennsylvania in 2010.

    She will replace John Giordano, whom Trump nominated as US Ambassador to Namibia and was serving as Counselor to the President.

    Habba also served as a clerk for New Jersey Superior Court Judge Eugene Codey Jr before entering private practice and worked for several years before starting her own law firm in 2020.

    She joined the legal team of US President Donald Trump in 2021 after they met at Bedminster country club in New Jersey.

    Alina Habba has represented Trump in several legal battles, including the case brought by Summer Zervos, a former Apprentice contestant who accused him of sexual assault. She also defended him in his $100 million lawsuit against The New York Times and Mary Trump over tax record disclosures, as well as the New York civil fraud case, where he was found guilty of inflating property values.

    Alina Habba was part of Trump’s legal team in the New York hush-money trial as well where he was found guilty on 34 counts for attempting to sway the 2016 election through a payment to an adult film star, making him the first US president convicted by a jury. 3

    During the E. Jean Carroll defamation trial—stemming from Carroll’s claim that Trump sexually assaulted her in the 1990s—she repeatedly clashed with Judge Lewis Kaplan.

    She also criticised Judge Arthur Engoron, who presided over Trump’s fraud case, calling him “unhinged."

      Trump commended her after she got Michael Cohen, his former fixer and key witness, to admit to lying under oath. Throughout these legal battles, she also acted as Trump’s official legal spokesperson.

      Gradually, Habba became one of Trump’s closest associates and was seen with him on his presidential campaign trail and spoke at a Trump rally in Madison Square Garden in October. She has also acted as an advisor for Trump’s political action committee, MAGA Inc.
