BOISE, Idaho (CBS2) — Daniel Chen, Taiwan's top representative in the Pacific Northwest, visited Boise to highlight the enduring relationship between Idaho and Taiwan. His visit coincided with Idaho lawmakers reaffirming their support for this growing partnership.
At the Idaho Statehouse, Chen and Senator Kelly Anthon emphasized the significance of Idaho's relationship with Taiwan, which plays a crucial role in the state's economy. "Taiwan is one of our largest export and trade partners, so important that I think it would be a major hit to the Idaho economy if we did not have Taiwan," said Senate President Pro Tem Kelly Anthon.
The partnership extends beyond traditional industries like agriculture, with potential growth in other sectors. Anthon noted, "It's not just agricultural products, but it's the tech industry. And as you see this Micron factory go up, you'll see that this relationship with Taiwan will matter more and more, and we'll continue to build that relationship."
Idaho's recent passage of House Concurrent Resolution 6 highlights the state's unwavering support for Taiwan, recognizing its role as a key economic and diplomatic partner. "This year is also the sixth consecutive year that Idaho passed this resolution. So, it's beyond testament of our rock solid and unwavering support," said Chen, the de facto Consul General representing Taiwan in the Pacific Northwest.
Chen expressed appreciation for Idaho's continued friendship and strong legislative support. "It's the friendship from Idaho, both the Senate and the House we deeply appreciate," he said.
Idaho leaders stated that Chen's visit reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening ties with Taiwan and expanding future collaboration.
