Seth Rogen and Ike Barinholtz, stars of new Apple TV+ Hollywood satire The Studio, met in a way that feels like it was written in a comedy script.
"I was shooting Eastbound and Down with Danny McBride, and he called me and was like, 'Hey, do you know Seth Rogen?,'" Barinholtz explained Wednesday during Sirius XM's Town Hall hosted by Andy Cohen. " I was like, 'I know who he is.' He goes, 'Do you have any weed?' and I was like, 'Yeah, I have a little.' He goes, 'Can you go down to room 237 and give Seth Rogen some weed?'"

It was 2012, and Rogen was shooting an episode of McBride's HBO comedy, in which Barinholtz had a recurring role as pitcher Ivan Dochenko. His character was a rival of McBride's former pro baseball player-turned-high school gym teacher Kenny Powers.
"What's funny is, from my perspective, I arrive in North Carolina to shoot an episode of Danny's show and I call when I get there and I'm like, 'I didn't bring any weed here. Do you know anyone with weed?' And he's like, 'Yeah, I'm gonna send Ike over to your room.' I got a knock on the door and it's Ike, who I thought was Danny's assistant, and so I wasn't — I don't think I was rude to you — but I was just like, 'Thank you.'"
Still, Barinholtz's hopes were dashed. "I'd been wanting to meet him for years," he said of Rogen. "I was really excited."

Rogen was even more confused about Barinholtz's identity later.
"That night, we all went to a bar and my character on the show, they made a t-shirt wit my face on it, so the fans could wear it," Barinholtz said. "A bunch of the crew members were wearing that t-shirt one night."

Rogen thought, "This guy's a popular assistant!'"
It was eventually sorted out.
The two later worked together when Barinholtz was cast in the 2018 movie Blockers, which Rogen produced. In their latest project together, Rogen plays movie studio head Matt Remick, while Barinholtz is his best friend and right-hand man, Sal Seperstein.
