Louisiana State (LSU) took down Kentucky 6-4, defending its home turf in a back-and-forth contest.
LSU started the game with an early lead from a three-run home run shot from Maci Bergeron in the bottom of the second. Kentucky began to cut into the Tigers’ lead with a solo home run in the top of third from Cassie Reasner on her first pitch of the day.
The Wildcats continued to fight back with Ally Hutchins hammering her fourth long ball of the season out to left center in the top of the fifth inning, putting Kentucky within a run. In the bottom of the fifth, LSU scored on an RBI, extending its lead to 4-2.
At the top of the sixth inning, Peyton Plotts led off the inning with a walk and Ally Blum reached on an error. Madyson Clark would then make the key play of the game for the Wildcats with a two-RBI single into left field to score a pair of runs and tie the game.
After a one-out double, Tori Edwards smacked a two-run go-ahead home run to center field to center field to score a pair, earning herself the winning runs for LSU.
Kentucky will be back in action facing off with the LSU Tigers once again on March 16 at 1 p.m. ET. The game will take place at Tiger Park.
