Suspect arrested following police pursuit spanning several Iowa, Minnesota counties
WAUKON, Iowa (KTTC) – The Allamakee County Sheriff’s Office said a suspect is in custody after attempting to evade police in a pursuit Wednesday morning, which spanned several counties in Iowa and Minnesota.
The sheriff’s office said the pursuit began when Houston County Sheriff’s Office deputies attempted to stop a vehicle driven by Tyler Michael Pierce, 39. The sheriff’s office said Pierce was wanted on an Iowa arrest warrant.
Pierce was allegedly traveling south on State Highway 76 N toward the Minnesota-Iowa border, striking a Houston County Sheriff’s vehicle in the process.
The pursuit entered Allamakee County and then continued into neighboring Winneshiek County before entering back into Minnesota, continuing into Fillmore County.
Stop sticks were eventually deployed and were successful in deflating three of the vehicle’s tires, according to the Allamakee County Sheriff’s Office.
However, the pursuit would continue, and police say Pierce continued to travel more than 90 mph. The pursuit would enter the city of Preston on Hwy 52, before Pierce allegedly tried to pass a semi-tractor trailer on the right, but instead struck the semi.
At that point, the vehicle came to a stop, and police say they were able to take Pierce into custody.
Police add that Pierce was taken to a hospital in Rochester for injuries suffered in the crash. Pierce is currently in the custody of Minnesota law enforcement.
The Allamakee County Sheriff’s Office said no one else was injured in the pursuit.
