China's second-largest oil producer aims to improve safety, efficiency with Xerafy's RFID pipeline tracking solutions.

SINGAPORE, SINGAPORE, July 11, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Xerafy, the global leader transforming industries and lives through innovation and data, has announced that PetroChina, China's second largest oil and gas producer, will use its rugged RFID tags to track oil pipe assets at its Xinjiang Oilfield.

The project will start the deployment with 4,000 Xerafy Dot Wedge RFID tags on oil pipelines at Xinjiang and will use up to 100,000 tags per year over the next five years to improve the pipeline asset and lifecycle management, reduce costs and non-productive time in critical processes as well as risks related to pipeline failures.

PetroChina is a subsidiary of the state-owned China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) headquartered in Beijing. It is China's second biggest oil producer, and one of the most profitable companies in all of Asia. The oilfield in Xinjiang is the largest one in western China, mainly engaging in the exploration, development, gathering transportation and sales of oil and gas resources in the Junggar Basin and its surrounding basins.

With the advanced use of RFID technology, PetroChina can ensure their operations are less likely to be disrupted by delays or an unexpected failure while also improving oilfield safety and compliance. The automated tracking and real-time data also help PetroChina manage the correct pipe tally and integrity in a drill string, and enables them to better govern their maintenance and inspection processes.

The Xerafy Dot Wedge tags were developed specifically to withstand the harsh conditions present in oil and gas industry deployments. The UHF tags have a read range up to 1 meter (3.3 ft.) embedded in metal, and are IP68-rated against dirt and fluids. The tags were designed to withstand extreme heat and cold, as well as exposure to drilling fluids and hydraulic fluids. The Dot Wedge tags are also UV-resistant and can survive immersion in sea water.

"RFID provides significant improvements over the traditional paper-based practice which is time consuming and error-prone," said Mr. Zhang, General Manager of Zhongshi Bangli Petroleum Technology Company, the partner company that is deploying the solution. "Fast and accurate tracking is critical for ensuring operational efficiency and timely maintenance, and Xerafy’s RFID solution delivers."

"There is a lot of activity on a daily basis to track and maintain the pipe assets, and there is an increasing need and urgency for better tracking and real time traceability," said Dennis Khoo, Xerafy founder and CEO. "Xerafy is committed to connecting industries such as PetroChina, and offering tailored RFID tag solutions to help their Xinjiang facility achieve traceability for their assets and operations."
